How do I keep my floors looking new?

First off: always take your shoes off, second: dust mop or vacuum your floors before you wash your wood floors, third: for the best wash, use one cup of vinegar mixed with a gallon of water to deep clean your floors.

What is the difference between laminate and engineered hardwood?

Laminate hardwood is manufactured from melamine resin and fiber board material and its top layer is imprinted to look like real wood. Engineered hardwood consists of several layers of wood or plywood.

What is the difference between pre-finished and un-finished?

Pre-finished flooring is when the finish is applied during manufacturing, while un-finished flooring is when the finish is applied on-site at the client’s house.

How long will my wood floors last?

With care and maintenance your wood floors will beautiful for a lifetime. Instead of laying an entirely new floor when the original is worn, the wood floors can be rejuvenated with sanding and refinishing. When done by a wood flooring professional, wood floors need only to be refinished every 10-15 years or 10-12 times during a floor’s life.

When can you walk on refinished floors?

A full 24 hours. We recommend you wearing socks for the first 24-48 hours. No bare feet or shoes!

Can I put hardwood floors in my basement?

Yes, you can out hardwood floors in your basement. Concrete is recommended underneath for a more durable option.

Why use hardwood flooring versus other floors?

Wood floors are softer, warmer and easier on your back than tile floors. They are very easy to maintain and are considered a healthier environmental option.

Moisture affect the wood and makes it expand. For example is your wood floors are exposed to high humidity it can start to expand and cup. Cupping is when you start to see dips and divots.

Can you sand and refinish engineered floors?

Forsure! It is actually the only re-sandable floor. It is recommend you have a thick floor with around .5 – .6 mm thickness so you can sand and refinish the floor more often to keep its lifespan.

Can I put hardwood flooring over existing floors?

Although we don’t recommend it, yes.

What are the different types of wood flooring?

There are pre-finished, unfinished, factory-finished, solid and engineered wood flooring.

What are the different moldings and what do they do?

Some of the most common moldings are T-molding, reducer molding, threshold molding, bull nose molding. T-molding is used mostly between tiled surfaces and wood floors. They are also used for connecting to existing wood floors. Reducer molding typically covers lower vertical heights such as vinyl, or concrete. It is sometimes used around fireplaces and other fixed objects while becoming more of a design aspect than anything. Threshold molding is used at sliding door areas where expansion is needed. It can also be used to transition carpet to wood. Bull nose molding is used for transition when placing plank or strip on stairs, landings, or step downs.

Is a solid wood floor better than an engineered wood floor?

No. The thicker and better quality engineered woods will last for years and years and can be refinished once or twice. Also, the technology and factory applied, UV-cured urethane finishes with melamine that are used today by hardwood flooring manufacturers makes a really tough, durable finish and is available on both engineered and solid wood floors. Engineered wood floors are also much more dimensionally stable than solid hardwood flooring so they can be used in many situations where solid wood is not recommended.
Can we install hard wood flooring over a concrete slab?
Engineered wood floors can be glued down or floated over a dry, clean, fully-cured concrete slab that is on or below grade. If moisture or humidity is very high at times of the year, perhaps a non-wood flooring option would be a better choice. There are installation methods used by some hardwood installers to install a 3/4″ solid wood floor over a concrete slab, which includes a vapor barrier and building up a wood subfloor on top of the concrete slab. This is not recommended by most hardwood manufacturers–and it also adds considerable cost to the project. Installing an engineered wood floor over a concrete slab would be preferable.
Can we put hardwood flooring over an existing floor?
In some situations an engineered wood floor can be floated (or glued down) over the top of an existing floor. The existing flooring has to be fully adhered to the sub-floor and be compressed enough so there is no bounce. For example, it is possible to install over a low profile commercial type level loop carpet, or glued-down vinyl flooring or tile. Be sure to read the manufacturer’s warranty to see if installing over an existing floor covering is covered under the warranty. Also, be sure the installer follows the manufacturer’s recommended installation procedures.

Which hardwood flooring installation method is best?

Staple down is known to be the best method because the nail is nailed in 1 1/2″ – 2″ deep. This helps attach the wood to the subfloor.

Is hardwood flooring healthy for those with allergies?

Tests by allergists have proven that wood flooring provides a healthier environment for these individuals. Wood does not harbor irritating dust and microorganisms. Simple regular maintenance, such as dust mopping or vacuuming, keeps wood floors sanitary.

Are hardwood floors recommend for kitchens?

Yes.  Wood flooring wears well in kitchens and other higher-stress areas.
